Van Uden: Motivating supervisors in a workshop for successful follow-up of the results

Van Uden was established in 1848. With 520 permanent employees and 12 operating companies, it is making serious headway. It currently has 200,000 m2 of warehousing and over 250 trucks on the road every day. Three divisions that supplement each other cooperate to serve customers: Van Uden Logistics, Van Uden Forwarding, and Van Uden Multimodal.

The company has grown in recent years through, among others, acquisitions, and the question was what this meant for the employees. A survey was carried out to determine engagement, loyalty, commitment and satisfaction.

As expected, the survey showed that there were significant differences between branches and department in terms of work experience. However, there was a clear desire to win and work on creating a great company everywhere. In order to achieve this, no fewer than 50 supervisors spent an evening under Integron’s guidance to work on the company and their own branch or department.

For this workshop, Integron and Van Uden’s board of management together decided on the themes for Van Uden as a whole, each division and employee target groups (office workers, warehouse workers, drivers), in order to ensure that the department results were also strategically guaranteed. Following a short presentation, each supervisor and his team evaluated their results compared to other results in every relevant aspect: what was going well, what could be done better, what was the story behind it and what were the questions that could be asked of their own team at branch or department level? The results were worked out per division, and in the following weeks, each team shared the overall result, the department result and the questions with its own employees. The result was that the story and actions per branch and department were truly accurately determined, and would be incorporated in the annual plans for 2015. Thus, Van Uden rolls through the country better and faster every day.
